Evolution Challenge: Snape the Spy Words: 100 Warnings: Spoilers for Deathly Hallows
The problem with being a spy, as Snape discovered, was remembering where his loyalties lay. Snape's changed over the years, though his cover—greasy, socially off-putting, vindictive—did not.
In the beginning he was loyal to one Tom Riddle a.k.a. Lord Voldemort. The man was sadly devoid of the first sign of intelligence: a sense of humour.
For years he was loyal to Albus Dumbledore and the side-of-light. But there is such a thing as taking a joke too far.
In the end, his loyalty rested irrevocably with Harry James Potter: insolent, stupidly brave, and too goddamned young to die.
