Christmas with the Vectors had been exhausting, with hikes, ice skating, the epic tromp through the woods to find a tree, and then (of course) trimming the said tree, complete with heirloom ornaments, real candles under a Controlled Flame charm, and garlands of tinsel and dried fruit. It had also been surprisingly enjoyable, with good food, excellent conversation, and a well-stocked library to retreat to when the good cheer became unbearable.
Severus was enjoying such a respite when Septima’s owl flew down the chimney and dropped a note in his lap. “Time to listen to the Queen’s Speech,” it read.
