It was well known for its harmonious layout and beautifully tended hermetic gardens. Generations of the family had attributed their good health, longevity, and ability to get along with Muggles to living in its agreeable surroundings.

This included Septima, who spent the week before winter hols telling Severus how much he’d love it. “The fresh air out on the pond – it’s wonderful, darling,” she said.

“I’m sure it is,” he’d replied.
