“Severus!” Horace Slughorn, smiling and unctuous as ever, clapped his hands together as if Severus were his dearest friend come back from abroad and not a colleague one step from being either a war criminal or dead. “You look wonderful! Welcome back to Hogwarts!”
“Thank you, Horace.” Severus did not look wonderful – visible bitemarks and unnatural pallor were not attractive – but at least he was alive, and able to teach Defense. “You look well. Are those new robes?”
“Yes indeed, thanks to my Slug Club.” Horace chuckled. “The candy line has proved most popular!”
“Candy?”
