The church – magnificent, perfect, an architectural wonder – was packed as the bride waited for her cue. Her maids tarted down the aisle as the organist – formerly at St.Martin-in-the-Fields – began the Purcell Trumpet Voluntary. The air was heavy with the scent of roses from a private greenhouse rumored to have worked with the royal gardening staff at Windsor.
She turned to Mr. Snape, tears in her eyes. “This is everything I dreamed of. Thank you so much.”
“Simply doing my job,” he said, and gave her veil one final check before she started down the aisle.
