Someone called for a dance, and someone hauled out an ancient gramophone. Minerva sighed and set down her glass. “Well. It seems to be time for merriment. If you'll excuse me?”
“Of course,” murmured Severus as she drew a deep breath and fixed him with a broad, unhappy smile. What was going on? “That is, if I can claim the next dance.”
Minerva nodded before holding out her hand to Arthur Weasley. Severus waited for them to finish, then moved in.
The music was loud enough to cover his question. “If you don't want to retire, why are you?”
