James Potter was the son of an ancient pureblood family whose features can be traced back generations in family portraits in a distinctive “Potter look,” yet comparison to photographs of young Harry shows little resemblance.

Some of this is attributable to the genes of Lily Potter, but could there be another explanation? Perhaps we should consider the men she knew, and when she knew them....
