Note: this is a Motherless Child story, where Snape and Lupin are married and have adopted a child. Their son is now around ten. It takes place at the same time as “Blast from the Past”
Regulus shuddered again, and Severus twitched a finger at the salamander on the hearth. It obediently raised the temperature, and Regulus let out a long, shaky breath.
“What happened, Reg?” Severus leaned forward. “You left without a note, without a broom or money or anything. Charlie thought you'd headed off to the race meet but - “
“I was meeting an auror. Or thought I was.” Regulus stared out the window. “It was Rodolphus.”
Severus tensed. “He turned you into a Grim?”
Regulus nodded. “Something about substituting me for Sirius to fool the Ministry. I don't remember much.”
