Challenging Granger (and, to a lesser extent, Lovegood, who was far more intelligent than her obsession with vegetable marrows would indicate) had been one thing. Severus had simply given her more work and the occasional special project, and her work with Potter and Weasley had done the rest. But a whole school of brilliant, perfectly prepared, intellectually curious teenagers was another matter entirely.
The younger students were relatively easy; Severus merely gave them work three years ahead of their Hogwarts counterparts and all was well. The equivalent of the NEWTS classes, though – that required considerably more thought and preparation....
