“I've had good reports from school, Severus.” Mummy, wearing the festive apron she pulled out every year on Stir-Up Sunday to make her Christmas fruitcake, handed him a cup of tea. “Your professors are very pleased with you.”

“Thank you, Mummy,” said Severus. “I'm trying to make you proud.”

“I'm always proud of you,” said Mummy, taking the seat opposite his. “Madam Sprout says you've got a good touch with the plants but sometimes don't get along with the other students. Be careful of that. Loyalty is a virtue.”

“I'll try to do better,” whispered Severus.
