Madder and indigo and fustic-dyed wools incorporated into the weft as Severus chanted the appropriate spells, all translated into English and checked with a former classmate who'd settled in Istanbul.
Eventually the pattern re-emerged from the filth and abuse of years in a Muggle family. Severus had to look up some of the imagery – Selim the Sot was a Wizard? Really? - but by the time the carpet was ready to bear his weight, he'd learned.
