“At least we know he’s alive,” said Filius, reaching up to give Poppy a consoling pat on the arm. “He’s probably taking a few days to recuperate.”
“I need a few days to recuperate,” said Poppy, glaring at the shredded remains of the Howler she’d received from an undisclosed location. She’d been treating a wounded child when the thing had appeared, and the poor little mite had dived straight under his bed and screamed the second he heard the harsh, angry words. “Good heavens.”
“Now, now. I’m sure there’s a good explanation,” Filius murmured as he picked up a fragment.
