Toward the end of the War, Severus moved the Cabinet in his quarters to the Shrieking Shack. His suite, and the Headmaster’s office, had so many protective spells woven into the very stones and furniture and woodwork that he doubted anyone would attack there. No, the Shack was where he would be vulnerable, which meant it was where he needed a way out.
He had not expected Nagini’s attack, but by sheer strength of will he held on until after Potter knew what he needed to know. Then he crawled to the Vanishing Cabinet, to safety, to the way home….
