It had been the merest chance that had led Severus to that particular antique shop, on that particular day. It had not even been his original plan – he’d been on his way to the local fishmonger’s for salmon steaks when he’d noticed the Vanishing Cabinet in the display window – but finding a pair of Vanishing Cabinets with the original charms intact had been quite the coup.
It was also his secret. Not even Albus knew about the Cabinets, although the canny old wizard knew that Severus had a bolt hole in case of emergency. The fewer who knew, the better.
