Snape took his sweet time reading Harry's file: OWLS and NEWTS scores, reports from professors (including his own notes from teaching Harry for six hideous years), recommendations (including, thank God, one from the Minister for Magic), personal statement, aptitude tests. Occasionally he'd lick his finger and turn a page with a "Hm," or "I see."
It was incredibly annoying, and the only thing that kept Harry from asking if there was a problem was knowing that Snape would just smile and take even longer.
Finally he spoke. "Fascinating file, Mr. Potter. Simply fascinating."
"Thank you," said Harry through his teeth.
