Note: this answers the question of how and why Snape allowed Fluffy to get close enough to chomp him.


The bite barely stung when Snape limped back to his quarters. Fortunately the saliva had no medicinal or poisonous properties, so he was not risk for losing a limb or having it mutate into a Hydra or a copy of Hagrid's three-headed horror.

He set up his equipment, dropped what he'd managed to collect into test tubes, and changed his robes. One dose of pain potion and a cup of tea later, he eased onto the high stool and checked the results.

Of course it was identical to normal dog waste. The only difference was size.

Snape switched to whisky.
