Remus set down his teacup. Severus sat back on the sofa and waited. "You were never this determined before, or this - centered."

"Or out, is what you mean." Severus raised a hand before Remus could speak. "Grandmother seems to have learned her lesson after what happened to Mum and me. She was strict but firm this time, not cruel. I almost hated to leave for school."

"Still, she's a pureblood. She couldn't have been pleased about Smithers."

Severus smiled. "Our families have known each other for years. Grandmother and Mr. Smithers are on the same committee on the Wizengamot."
