I always thought that it's impossible to surprise me. You know, that I've seen and done just about everything and nothing could shock me anymore.
Well, I was wrong....
You'd think participating in and surviving a war would have prepared me for almost anything. I had seen people dying and killing. Hell, I had done some of the killing myself. One does what one must during a war.
I'd like to say I preferred the healing I had performed, but the sight of my friends suffering still haunts me. Some, I was able to help. Others...well, we did all we could. To this day, the sight of raw meat makes me gag.
Seeing the Dark Lord up close and personal is something I'll never be able to erase from my mind or my memories. He was no longer human, in either form or function. I watched him die. I felt...relief. Not happiness or jubilation...just relief that he was gone, that it was over.
It seemed almost strange to return to Hogwarts with my friends after that. It was anticlimactic. Ron said that classes seemed like a let down after the constant vigilance and state of heightened awareness we'd experienced during the war. I had to agree with him.
Nevertheless, a return to classes meant a return to studying, which is why I was in the library on this particular day. Nobody bothered to bar me from the Restricted Section any longer, and I had just rounded a wobbling stack of books when I saw something that surprised me completely.
Draco Malfoy was engaged in a rather heated snog with another boy! One whom I recognized, with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach...
Their mouths were fused together, their hands were groping each other inappropriately, and their lower bodies were grinding against one another in a shocking display. I found it disturbingly erotic.
I must have gasped, for Malfoy broke off long enough to turn his head and see me there, stunned into immobility. His usual sneer was ruined by the swollen appearance of his lips, but there was no mistaking the icy dismissal in his words, as he snapped, "Run along, Granger. Potter is all mine!"
