A/N: I suggest you read 'The Symbol' before reading this, as things will make much more sense. Plus, it's a brilliant little drabble that Janice penned!
By the time they got home that evening, Harry had gone from taking his ring off and putting it on again to simply twisting it round and round his finger. He didn't mind the weight of it on his finger, it just felt different. Draco, who had worn rings most of his life and was accustomed to them, wouldn't understand how odd it felt to Harry to wear a piece of jewelry.
Nevertheless, Harry had not removed it again following Draco's threat to spell it permanently to his finger. Now, however, he was in a quandary. He had just used the loo, and he wanted to wash his hands, yet he was afraid of losing his ring down the drain.
Reasoning that what Draco didn't know wouldn't hurt him, Harry came to a decision and removed his ring, setting it carefully on the vanity portion of the sink. He washed his hands, gave them a cursory toweling, then reached for his ring to return it to its rightful place.
The ring slipped out of his still-damp fingers, tumbled into the sink and disappeared down the drain, despite the former Seeker's best effort to grab it. Harry's face paled, and he cursed under his breath. Now what? He could accio the ring out of the drain, but his wand was in the other room...where Draco was.
Deciding his highest priority was retrieving his ring and that he could deal with Draco's histrionics later, Harry walked into the livingroom as nonchalantly as he could, left hand hidden in his pocket, hoping not to draw his husband's attention.
Draco was sprawled on the sofa, reading a book. He smiled up at Harry as he walked past, and Harry favored the blond with a return grin. He retrieved his wand as casually as he could, then began the dead man's walk back through the room.
"Harry?" Draco's voice stopped him cold. "Where are you going with your wand?"
"Well, I..." Harry began, realizing that Draco had sat up and was now getting up off the sofa. Harry did the only thing he could think of...he panicked and ran.
Apparently, this caused Draco's predatory instincts to kick into high gear, as he immediately gave chase. Harry barely made it to the bathroom ahead of his husband, and he slammed the door and placed a locking charm on it. He ignored the sound of Draco banging on the other side and yelling, "Harry, what are you doing? Open the door this instant!"
He pointed his wand at the sink and whispered, "Accio ring!". Harry sighed gratefully as his wedding ring, the symbol of his love for the irate blond outside the door, flew up from the drain. He snatched it out of the air and placed it securely back on his finger.
Draco had gone from banging on the door to rattling the knob ominously. Harry chewed his lower lip nervously as he pondered how to deal with the fall out. Concluding the best defense was a good offense, he yanked the door open and flung himself at his husband, declaring, "I love you, Draco!"
His impetus knocked Draco into the opposite wall, but the blond still brought his arms up automatically to catch his Gryffindor. Harry latched his lips onto Draco's before the other could get anything but a startled 'meep' out.
They ended up in a tangle on the floor, and Draco forgot all about his husband's odd behavior, as his ability to think was subverted by Harry's sneak attack snog.
Much later, as they finally made their way to the bedroom, Harry congratulated himself on his quick thinking.
Crisis averted!
