They are like glass.
Fragile and hard, cold and transparent, beautiful but oh so deceiving. But there's one difference. Glass doesn't fade. Glass doesn't get thinner and thinner until its hipbones stick out and every single rip shows.
They do. They stopped eating, stopped caring and sometimes they look at each other, at night, in the dark and they both stop breathing.
They never manage to hold their breaths long enough to end it, but that's ok. Because none of this is real. They are hiding here, away from the world, only the two of them, but it's not real.
Reality, that's the black rimmed letters they never open anymore. That's the flashes of green they both dream about and the screams that are ripped from their throats every night.
But they are not real.
And that's why they don't die.
They are like glass, beautiful, frozen, hard, cold, magical and like glass, they cannot die.
But there's one difference.
They can fade.
