A/N: This was based off the Kenny Chesney song by the same name...and has a few lines from the song in it.
Harry laughed as Draco spun in the sand, arms flung wide and a grin splitting his face. The sun is setting to the left across the water, a collage of purples and reds and oranges that makes Draco look heavenly and innocent, the way he never did in the starlight that would come in just an hour.
They’d both come to this little island for peace away from home, and surprisingly, when they found each other, they didn’t fight, but formed a tentative friendship that was quickly becoming more.
“Come on, dance with me.” Draco laughed, taking off his shoes.
“Why are you barefoot?” Harry questioned. “You hate getting dirty.”
“Of course I hate getting dirty.” Draco took Harry’s hand and pulled him close. “But I love the feeling of sand beneath my feet.”
Harry’s grin softened into a smile as he wrapped his arms around Draco’s middle and held him tightly. “You’re such a romantic.”
“Mm, but you love it.” Draco kissed his cheek and Harry smiled.
“Of course I love it. I love you.”
Draco smiled because he knew it wasn’t true, but it was still nice to hear the words come off Harry’s lips. “And I love you, you silly Gryffindor.”
Harry leaned forward and nipped Draco’s lips lightly before pressing a soft kiss to them. Draco made a soft noise of contentment and pressed closer, still spinning in a slow dance to an imaginary beat. The waves crashed softly beside them and overhead a few lonely gulls cried.
Harry pulled back from the kiss and led Draco by the hand to the edge of the water, then kicked off his own shoes and stepped into the clear water. “Come on, Draco. It’s even better to be in the ocean at night than during the day.”
“Oh, is it?” the blond moved into Harry’s arms, and both ignored the several inches of their pants that were soaked. Draco leaned in and kissed Harry again, soft and wet and full of everything they really couldn’t say.
“I can’t believe this is our last night here.” Harry whispered against his lips, and Draco nodded.
“I know. I can’t either.” Draco pushed back the wave of grief that hit him with more force than the salty water lapping at his knees.
“In less than twenty-four hours we’ll be back in our own little worlds and…”
“And?”
“You’ll go back to bringing home faceless, nameless boys for a night and for just a few hours you’ll be theirs and…I’ll be at home wondering why it’s them and not me, because…I don’t see how you could ever be anything but mine.”
Harry’s cheeks were red and Draco knew it was more than just the sunburn. He touched the hot skin lightly with his lips, then his tongue, tasting the sunshine and salt that might have been from more than just the ocean.
“Harry, I am yours.” He whispered, almost too quietly to hear over the waves and the wind and the birds. “I will always be yours, however you want me.”
Harry looked at him with shimmering eyes and Draco knew they shouldn’t keep this, but that they would, no matter the cost. “Right now I just…” he gave a small laugh. “I just want you to dance with me.”
“In the water?”
“Yeah. If we’re quiet we can hear the band playing in the pavilion.”
“Ok.” Draco put his arms back around Harry’s shoulders and smiled, feeling lighter and happier than he had the rest of his vacation.
As they spun and moved in the water, kicking up the sand and splashing each other with twin grins and loud laughter, the sun finally dipped down below the horizon and left them in a calm twilight when the stars began to slowly make themselves known. Draco’s eyes reflected the pinpricks of light and Harry almost wished his breath didn’t catch at the soft look, but was still happy it did.
“So when we get back…what happens?” Draco finally asked quietly. Harry shook his head and kissed his brow quickly.
“I don’t know. But we’ll be together, right? Everything will be fine.”
“You sound like you already love me, Harry.” Draco whispered.
Harry gave a small smile, weakened by the way Draco was gazing at him. “I might.”
“Oh.” Draco’s smile was just the same when he kissed Harry. “Good then. Now that the future is secured…I think that now we should head back to the hotel.”
“Really? Because I think…” Harry cast a quick spell and a blanket spread itself over the sand a few feet away from the reaching fingers of the sea. “I think we should just stay here.”
Draco smiled. “I like the way you think.”
They lay together and kissed slowly, touched softly, until the stars all fell away into the dim light of the morning sun.
