Wish Granted
Hermione smiled sadly as she watched Bill and Fleur twirl on the dance floor together. The wedding had been perfect—beautiful, peaceful, full of family and friends of both the bride and the groom. She couldn’t help but feel a little wistful, though, even in the happy atmosphere. She wanted this too, though she wouldn’t be able to get it until Ron decided to ask her out.
“Why the long face?” Harry asked as he plopped down beside her. She looked away from the flowered arch over the altar and into his eyes.
“No reason, really. I’m just thinking.” She sighed and waved to the altar. “You know, I wish I knew what it felt like to kiss a guy under one of those.”
“Me too.” Draco agreed as he walked over.
“Yeah, me too.” Harry shrugged. “We’re only twenty-five though, we have plenty of time.”
“Not if Ron never asks me on a date.” Hermione huffed.
“Well, come on then.” Draco grabbed her hand and tugged. “You, at least, can have your wish come true.”
“What’s that?” Hermione asked with a laugh as she was led under the arch.
“To kiss a gorgeous man under here.”
“I don’t remember ‘gorgeous’ being part of it…Ron will do.” She teased as she put her arms around Draco’s shoulders. “Ok, kiss away, O Gorgeous One.”
Draco smirked and tilted his head to get the angle right, gave Hermione a wink, then pressed a soft kiss to her lips. They pulled back and smiled at one another before pulling away.
“Wish granted.”
“What about yours?” Hermione looked from Draco to where Harry sat blushing uncomfortably. “Come here, Harry.”
Harry stood and gave her a suspicious look as he walked over. “What?”
She took his hand and put it in Draco’s, smiling at the surprise on both of their faces. “Now you two have to kiss.”
“Hermione, I don’t think—”
“Oh, shush, Draco.” She pushed them closer. “It’s only a kiss, it can’t do any damage.”
Draco smirked lightly. “What about mental damage?”
“I didn’t know you were that worried about me.” Harry teased back.
“Any more mental damage and you, Harry, will be a vegetable.”
“Both of you quiet! Just kiss!”
“I think Hermione’s got a kink…” Harry gave her a sideways glance. She glared.
“Oh, fine, fine.” Draco tugged Harry’s hand and brought his other hand up to cup his friend’s cheek. Harry fidgeted but didn’t pull away—in fact, he shuffled closer and ran his fingers through Draco’s baby-soft hair before leaning in. Draco let out a deep breath he didn’t know he was holding against Harry’s lips and felt the most delicious zing go through him from mouth to toes and back when Harry kissed him. Harry’s grip tightened on his hair and he gasped slightly.
“Aww…” Hermione cooed. “You two are so cute.”
“It’s your fault.” Harry pulled back to say.
“Mm, yes.” She smiled.
“Prat.” Draco said.
She shrugged. “Go dance. Kiss, be happy. Merlin knows you’ve both wanted it forever.”
She gave them another smile then hopped away, only turning back once to see her friends kiss again, softly, smiling as they did. Looking away she saw Ron staring out at the dancers gloomily.
“Come on, Ron, dance with me.” She smiled. He blushed but grinned back and pulled her into his arms.
“Where have you been? I haven’t seen you since the ceremony.”
“I was with Harry and Draco just now. I talked to one of your cousins for a bit, and danced with one of Fleur’s.”
Ron’s arms tightened almost imperceptibly. “Oh.”
“And Draco kissed me…”
“What?!” Ron pulled back enough to see Hermione’s smirk and tried to push down the flicker of anger inside. “Why?!”
“Because the boy I want to kiss is too boneheaded to kiss me. But now Draco’s off snogging Harry within an inch of his life. Or, he better be at least, or I’ll charm their mouths together.”
“So…he’s not interested in you?”
“Ron, he came out in fifth year. He’s not interested in any girl.”
“Oh.” Ron moved closer again without saying more and Hermione glared at nothing in particular.
“Damnit, Ron!” she drew away, gave him a swift kick in the shin, and stood on her toes to grab his hair and force his face down to meet her lips. He cried out in pain and Hermione bit down on his lip until he quieted, then kissed him more softly. To her right she heard Fred and George laughing and cheering, but she focused on the lips covering hers.
“Holy shit, Hermione…” Ron gasped when she let him go.
“It had to be done, Ron, and I knew you weren’t going to do it.” She said defensively.
“Did you really need to kick me?”
“Yes!” Fred, George, and Hermione all said together. Ron flipped his brothers the bird and slipped an arm around Hermione’s waist.
“Well, if it had to be done…I guess that’s ok. Want to go somewhere more…private?”
Hermione smiled. “Sure.”
Wish granted, indeed.
