Kirley rolled a little again, putting Anna on her back and him on his side next to her so he could kiss her cheek and her temple as he ran his hand slowly down her front to her stomach. He was still slightly out of breath and on a certain level couldn't believe this all was happening. Not the sex, obviously they'd done that before and were brilliant at it (so far as he was concerned), but everything else. The baby. His unorthodox proposal.
This was going to change everything. This was going to change things more than he could even imagine. They would have to move. Her job, despite her assurances, didn't cover a bigger place and a baby. What he got from the band didn't cover his own bills, and technically he was overdue. Everything had to change.
The sudden realization of that, as he looked down at her smiling, open face, and the realization that he would do anything for her, sobered him suddenly. It almost broke him. But at the same time the mental image (and sound) of their child and the kind of life that child deserved made him realize he had to do it.
"I'm going to quit the band," he told her, sounding determined but not the least bit happy about it.
