In the Common Room [open]
Amber stared at the letter in disgust. In the back of her mind, she knew she should be enjoying this moment. It was the calm before the storm. One of the last few precious moments she'd have to herself before the flood of good wishes and plans started hitting her. That didn't make it any easier for her to stop looking at the letter though.
Her mother was getting married. When had this happened? How had this happened? Her mother wasn't supposed to get married. It wasn't right! It didn't make sense at all. Her mother couldn't love this man. It wasn't possible. And they didn't need his money. Amber bit her lip at the thought. They didn't need his money, did they?
Amber crumpled the letter and dropped it onto the floor, suddenly too exhausted to think about disposing of it properly. This had to be a joke of some sort. An early April Fools, perhaps. That was the only possibility that made sense.
