Friday Rec!
 This week's rec comes from akatnamedeaster. As always we encourage members to share their own favorites in the comments.

I debated whether to post this particular rec this week since my last rec was a Sirius/Severus. I do have other Sirius-centric pairings in my favorites folder and I don't want to give the impression that every rec I'm going to give will be Snack.

However, I love this story to bits so I'm tossing those concerns aside and reccing it anyway.

Mpreg and Snack are two things I wouldn't normally put together in the same sentence, in fact, it almost seems to be the antithesis of what anyone would expect from this pairing. I'll come right out and say it, Mpreg, I don't want to say squicks me, but the idea causes my suspension of disbelief cable to snap and most that I've ventured to read tends to showcase the worst cliche's about pregnancy along with being overly schmoopy. Plus, I find pregnancy and all that goes along with it as unappealing as it gets. I generally avoid Mpreg like the plague.


This entry, from 2012's Sirius Black fest managed to get past all of my hurdles and quickly found its way into my favorite fic folders. It probably doesn't hurt that the focus of the story is not the pregnancy itself but rather the characters, specifically Severus coming to grips with both his condition and his feelings for Sirius, the depths of which are revealed very subtly by the author's clever writing. Their banter is funny and completely in character; Severus is as confused and belligerent as one would expect a wizard in his unusual condition to be and Sirius is masculine and sexy with a veneer of madness over his obvious tenderness towards his infuriating partner.


Excerpt: The Dog kissed him, just lightly—a brush of lips only, and Severus had to stomp down all that swelled up within him and stand stark still in his grasp.

“…Don’t,” he managed. “This is…this is difficult enough, already. Tea—I just want tea. Tea…would be...pleasant.”

The Dog smiled. Hung Severus’ heart on a brilliant star in passing, by the bye. It was…earth-shattering, effortless—not nice.
