It took a moment for Garan to even register what had happened. He cocked his head to the side, confused at first. And then he was embarrassed. Garan scooted away to a safe distance. "I know," he said quietly. It seemed like things had been going so smoothly, and really, Garan had been surprised. But he'd figured they were past these moment. And yeah, it hurt.
Garan couldn't even look at Nate. "I'm sorry," he offered. But he wasn't really. He didn't think he'd done anything wrong. He cared very strongly for Nate, and here was just yet another reminder. . . well, perhaps Garan liked Nate more than Nate liked him. He always wondered in the back of his mind, but the way things had been going, Garan had thought that question had been answered. It certainly had been now - just not with the answer he'd thought it would be.
