There was a lot to unpack in that response. River made a mental note to ask about it later, the train, these new...companions? She'd missed so much. But if she was welcome, she was more than ready to make up for it.
She leaned in a little closer, looking at the device as the Doctor pressed buttons, but she wasn't entirely sure what she was looking at. It would probably have helped if she knew what the little machine was meant to do. But the Doctor seemed satisfied with the new readings, and that was usually an encouraging sign.
"I'd prefer a little more confidence, Sweetie," River murmured, watching her with only a hint of worry.
River didn't realize she'd been holding her breath until she released it with a relieved sigh as the TARDIS finally stood solidly before her in all her beautiful blue glory.
While the Doctor moved to the console, she took a moment to silently greet the ship, resting a hand on one of the crystals. She glanced up at her wife, startled by the question. "No, thank you."
She went back to her slow exploration of the new space before deciding, "It's lovely."
Studying her wife across the console, River finally asked, "So, my love, how long has it been?"
