"I had a reason," he agreed. "I was heading south. Thinking about going back to Asia for a little while, or seeing what Africa was like this time of year. I wasn't planning on getting stuck here," he confessed. Honestly, he hadn't had a destination when he'd started, but now that he'd been stuck here with time to think about it 'anywhere but here' seemed like a fantastic destination.
"I'm all right on my own," he assured her. He genuinely had no interest in moving into a house full of strangers. Strange mutants at that. He'd find some employment, find a small place of his own, and continue his solo existence. It had been working just fine so far.
