[The second Channing walks out of the hotel, she knows something's wrong.
Walking outside in Las Vegas is the difference between Heaven and Hell: the cool oasis versus the blast of sandy heat. That's the first thing, but she can also feel it in the energy on the air she can usually pull all the power she needs to survive. No effort, no thought...she breathes in life, and exhales love, faith, justice, hope.
When she emerges from the Mirage to find the towncar that will take her to McCarran, she stops dead and has to gasp for breath, adjust to the new level of energy in the air.
It's dark. Cold. There's something sinister, and it's everywhere.
Moving slowly towards the curb, she surveys the familiar landscape of the Strip for a second before she starts rummaging in her purse for her phone. It's not there, but she does find a tablet she doesn't recognize.
By the time she gets it turned on and her refined features fill the screen, she's visibly angry.]
