She'd hoped that he'd fight for her a little more, but really she couldn't blame him. What was he going to do against the police officers besides get arrested? After the device had gone off, making her mind feel like it was about to explode, she'd been injected with vervain and dragged down into the basement of some building. She hadn't wanted to hurt anyone, she'd only wanted her life. And then he'd staked her. Jeremy's uncle had staked her. She'd felt the dead element pierce her heart and instantly poison her system. In a few seconds she'd be dead.
Only death, true death, never came. A few moments later the heat from the fire was gone, the air smelled differently, and the sounds around her at changed. Anna found herself on the ground, and when she opened her eyes, she was looking up at a young man leaning over her. "Hey, are you okay?" for a moment Anna said nothing, looking around in confusion. Her hand flew to her chest, expecting to find a piece of wood sticking out and a giant hole in her ribs. But there was nothing.
The vampire got to her feet, and then turned to look at the man. Her eyes met his, and suddenly he went very still. "Where am I?" she asked softly.
Five minutes later she had gathered she was in a town called Shreveport, she wasn't going crazy when she thought the bar was called Fangtasia, apparently it was run by vampires, and everyone knew vampires were real. After wishing the man a good night, she turned to look at the bar, a scowl coming over her face.
