WHO: Remus Lupin WHEN: 226404.26 WHERE: Remus' quarters. SUMMARY: Remus muses about music and the Marauders. WARNINGS: None.
Karaoke. Remus had never done karaoke, and he'd never done much singing--not in public, at least. But a song had popped into his head unbidden as he'd read Lucifer's invitation for people to come to a karaoke night.
He didn't remember where exactly he'd first heard the song, but he remembered wearing out the Muggle cassette tape listening to it. It had reminded him of the way he'd felt with Sirius and James and Peter, back when they'd been in school, when they'd been young and on top of the world. And also in the early days of their fight against Voldemort, when they still felt and seemed young and untouchable. It had seemed so much like an anthem of their younger days.
And he'd been the only one to hear it.
Probably the only one. James had been dead for years when the album came out, and Sirius had been in Azkaban. And Peter...well, Remus doubted that Peter had had much occasion to listen to Muggle music while living as a pet rat. Being the one left to hear the song had made the lyrics that much more bitter-sweet to Remus.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He opened his eyes and looked up at the ceiling.
