You know, I thought she was a bit Mary Sue-ish in the first episode, but then she just cracks me up with her "You will talk to me like a lady" while a vamp is about to rip out her neck. I normally don't do Southern Gothic either (probably due to the 'southern' bit) but I am really enjoying this show.

I'm going to start turning into a Southerner

I've lived down here most of my life and I'm still fighting it. ;)

Sookie's pretty MarySuish in the books, which are quite fun nonetheless.

It's so funny, it's as if fandom is conspiring to turn me Southern! (not a bad thing, btw) True Blood is Deep South, and SPN has a real bible belt vibe to it, too. It just occurred to me, it's actually pretty damn cool that Charlaine Harris managed to set up this whole Louisiana Vampire World thing and make it work, without any Anne Rice overtones at all. Good for her!
