If I was drowning in the sea
Would you dive right in and save me?
If I was falling like a star
Would you be right there to catch me?
If I was dreaming of your kiss
Would you look right through me?

Theodore wasn't the greatest with emotions and he wasn't used to worrying about Pansy, besides her being a pretty girl in a big city like London, but in the last couple weeks, her mortality had become increasingly clear to him. The lives he'd taken only served as a reminder of how fragile she was. With those constant reminders, he'd left to get himself under control, so that he'd never attack her, for it would be an awfully long time before he forgave himself for that, but...with her here, he would have to delay that. He had no idea what lay in store for them in this alternate universe and he had no intention of letting her face it alone. No, Pansy needed him to protect him so he'd just need to learn to fight the thirst as best he could. Or feed regularly so he didn't get desperate. Probably both.

He'd written her from the forest behind his family home, using his enhanced senses to hear, see, and smell his mother and younger self inside. He was about two years younger here, but in those two years, hadn't changed enough that she might suspect something was wrong. Running out of time, Theo knew what he had to do. He had to kill this other self and take his place.

It was quick, this other Theodore's death. Their mother had no idea, just one floor above, that a vampire had snapped her son's neck and dragged him off into the woods to drink the blood and dispose of the body. Everything in the house looked exactly like it had in his own, even this mother, who seemed to be adjusting to the absence of Theodore Sr. He told her he needed to visit a friend for a short while, then Apparated to the hospital.

It took longer than he'd hoped, a good half hour, actually, to locate her, as there were no records or anything for the new arrivals yet, but he used his sense of smell to find her. Entering the room, he took in the sight before him: patients, families, sitting on cots and on the floor, standing because there wasn't enough room to sit. It was a bit ridiculous, really.

"Pansy," he called when he spotted her, and hurried over, but stopped short of her, just barely within touching distance. He wasn't sure he'd be able to keep his secret from her for very long, nor was he sure he even wanted to. If he was the only one, what was stopping him from telling her? But regardless, that was not a conversation that needed to happen here. "Let's go, we're leaving."

Pansy was, in fact, not really concerned with her mortality at the moment. She was more concerned with the fact that she'd prefer not to be in St. Mungo's. She'd stood up from the coat she was sitting on. Really, this was just ridiculous. She'd rather just leave and not go back with such madness going on. So, when Theodore arrived, Pansy was entirely relieved.

"Theodore!" she exclaimed. "Thank goodness!" She closed the distance between them and hugged him tightly before releasing him once more so he could take her out of there. "Lead the way."

Theo was not used to such public displays of affection, or any display of affection really, so the hug he returned was awkward, as though he wasn't quite sure what to do. He knew the mechanics of a hug, the theory behind one, but the practice was something different. And this was as close as he'd ever really been to a human since being turned, so he was especially mindful of her fragile bones. It was a strange kind of power to hold her frail body in his arms and know that just a little squeeze would crush her bones and pop her organs. But that wasn't what he wanted. If he wanted to do that, he could have his pick of any number of people in the room, or in this world and it would mean nothing to him. But this girl did mean something to him. Her very essence of living meant something to him. He quite enjoyed her being alive and this close to him, even if it was also so very tempting to bite her.

Theodore had to actually shake himself when she finally let go of him. He just wasn't used to humans just yet, that was it. But he wasn't thirsty, so that would surely keep him under control.

He put a hand on her shoulder and directed her out of the room. "Don't look around like we're not supposed to be leaving," he whispered loud enough for her to hear as he kept his own face forward. He was staring intently at the staircase when he realised that he should be casually glancing around, since that was what one usually did when one wasn't doing anything wrong, and did that. He used it as an opportunity to make sure they weren't being followed or going to be stopped, although if anyone were to try, one look from his red irises would probably stop them in their tracks. Ah, he'd probably have to start wearing sunglasses to blend in.

But no one stopped them. The hospital was understaffed as it was, and they could spare no one to make sure that every single person that left had been discharged. "I'm going to take you to my parents' manor," Theo said once they'd stepped outside, and before Pansy could protest, Apparated them with a soft pop.

"Before we go in, there's something I should tell you," he said when he could breathe again. Well, with that sentence, he was back to not being able to breathe, though truthfully, he no longer needed to breathe. It was just uncomfortable not to.
