Cam & Ruby (language)
Cam laughed when she pointed at him, pleased that he’d managed to piss her off this quickly. “Like you could steal anyone from Jules,” he scoffed. “C’mon.” Jules having a boyfriend was news to him, but he could roll with almost anything. He chug a lugged the rest of his beer and placed the cup carefully atop a pyramid of empty cups before turning his attention back to Ruby. Starting rumors was good dirty fun, but not if it could be traced back to him. For that reason alone, Cam wouldn’t even consider telling that made up story. “I’m not that easy,” he said to her last statement, grinning at her. “I gotta have a little touch at the very least.” He made that familiar gesture with a curled fist.
“Thanks for the vote of confidence, asshole,” Ruby said, rolling her eyes. “I can have whomever I damn well please. I’m just a bit more picky than the rest.” She usually wouldn’t have engaged Cam, nor gotten riled up quite so fast, but she’d been drinking and her attitude was turned up to ten. He was always a jerk, even on his best days. “Gross,” she said, leaning back against the counter opposite him. “Go find a cheerleader for that. I hear that’s all they’re good for.” Which was mean and she knew it, but they all had reputations for being easy and super flexible. That she knew what the boys said made it pretty wide-spread.
Cam snickered. “I’m more picky usually translates to nobody wants to fuck with me.” Ruby wasn’t ugly. Hell, there were tons of girls he’d put below her in the pecking order. It was just fun for him to mess with her and he wasn’t even sure why. Maybe because she had such an attitude problem; he kept wanting to see if he could bring her down a notch. If nothing else, it filled a few empty minutes during this party. Whatever. “Sex isn’t gross,” he disagreed. “If that’s what you think, you ain’t been having it with the right people.” He was deliberately misinterpreting what she’d said, because he refused to let her think she could insult him. He also wasn’t going to go into a rant defending the cheerleaders’ virtue because he simply didn’t care that much.
“See, I know that’s not true,” Ruby smirked back at Cam. She’d never had trouble getting a guy, or keeping one for that matter. Just because she didn’t have one right now didn’t mean she couldn’t find one if she wanted, but she had nothing to prove to Cam. “Oh, I didn’t say sex was gross. You misunderstood. That was just in reference to you,” she said with a grin. She could see what he was doing and knew she really should just walk away now. It was turning into a battle of who would have the last word and, really, there were no winners. “You have fun with that,” she said, gesturing towards the pyramid of cups. “I’m gonna go find someone who appreciates my company.”
Cam gave her a big smile and a lifted middle finger when she tried futilely to insult him again. “Ride my dick and you’d be ruined for anyone else. Too bad you won’t get the chance.” He wanted to slide off the counter but he wasn’t sure he could do it without staggering, so he’d wait a bit. Good thing for him he was walking home; he’d never attempt to drive his car with this much of a load on. He widened his eyes and put on an innocent face when she told him she was going to find someone who’d appreciate her company. “Oh, you’re leaving the party then? Have a great night.” There happened to be a nearly depleted twelve-pack within reach, and he snagged another can. Enough posturing for a while. Once she’d left he’d get down and go find someone to chill with. Maybe Hayley… she’d been hinting that she’d gotten a bikini wax the other day and maybe she’d let him see it.
