Re: Ruby and Jules
It was the step forward that really concerned Jasper, and he automatically slid his arm around Jules’s waist. He could hold her back if he had to, but fuck, he really didn’t want to have to. He hadn’t even taken Ruby speaking to him as an indication that she wanted him to go too, but it seemed like Jules had. “Okay,” he said again, drawing the word out in the most soothing voice he could muster. “Great idea. Ruby, go smoke, Jules, come with me.” Jasper started to step back with his arm still around her to get some more distance between the girls. “Before you two end up on WorldStar,” he muttered.
Ruby narrowed her eyes and held her ground as Jules’ crowded her, unwilling to take a second step back. Tiny as she was, she refused to be walked on. Jasper’s comment won a little snort of amusement and she reached around Jules to pluck his cigarettes and lighter out of his front pocket. “You know where to find me,” she told him, sizing Jules up once more before she turned and headed for the patio door. It pissed her off that she was the one stepping aside, but it was Jules’ house and, more importantly, Jasper was her friend. He’d see Jules’ true colors eventually. She’d just hoped to spare him of it.
Jules was just drunk enough that she was feeling like she could take anyone, especially Ruby. She probably would have tried if Jasper hadn't put his arm around her waist to keep her still. Her jaw tightened and she glared at Ruby when the other girl took Jasper's cigarettes and lighter from his pocket. No one else needed to be that close to Jasper's dick but her and she really loathed how 'comfortable' it seemed to be. Like they were friends friends and not just casual friends. Jules shot daggers at Ruby's back as the other girl walked toward the back doors and after a moment, she swung her gaze back to Jasper. "What the hell is Worldstar?" she asked, her annoyance palpable. "Why are you even friends with her? She's the worst."
Surprise crossed Jasper’s face as Ruby’s fingers dipped into his pocket. Luckily it wasn’t a deep one she would’ve had to really dig around in to steal his smokes. If Ruby’s face had lingered long within Jules’s reach, he would’ve been worried. He’d pissed Jules off plenty of times throughout their ... whatever this was, but he couldn’t remember seeing her looking quite so murderous as she did when she looked around at him. Jasper frowned vaguely at her, his arm still around her waist. “WorldStar is that ... I dunno, they have a buncha fight videos online,” he explained in a mutter, wondering why that was important at all. “My uncle used to work for her dad, I’ve known her forever. What’s wrong with you, what was that all about?”
