Jasper flicked his lighter and lit Ruby’s cigarette, then went back to sucking down his own. He was feeling like he was calming down too, which was good. It was stupid that Jules could get under his skin so intensely, it was like a goddamn talent of hers. Maybe that meant he cared about her, he didn’t fucking know. Ruby didn’t tell him much, and he’d figured out they used to be friends, but it didn’t take a genius to see that it had fallen apart. He’d never been through that personally, but Jasper tended to keep most people at arm’s length anyway. He didn’t have a lot of close friends to risk. “It’s okay,” he repeated. “Hang out, have fun. Everybody’ll get over it.” What was a high school party without some drama, right?
