Re: Ruby and Jules
He was headed toward the kitchen to grab a beer and try to track her down again, when he noticed there were a lot of people crowded around the entrance of it, all looking in. Something was going on. Jasper heard female voices as he approached, angry ones. To his entire lack of surprise, he recognized one of them was Jules. Great. Jasper elbowed his way through the gathered observers to walk into the kitchen. His brows lifted as he saw Ruby there -- looking really hot, he had to notice -- and Jules facing off with her, looking about ready to claw her eyes out. “Hey,” he said sharply. “What’s goin’ on here?”
How things had escalated so quickly, Ruby wasn’t sure, but it probably had something to do with the alcohol. Her logic wasn’t quite right, or rational for that matter, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to punch Jules. Or at least knock that crown off her pretty little head. She stood tall, unwilling to back down, not the least bit intimidated by the height Jules had on her, and would’ve snapped right back at her, but then Jasper stepped in and she held her tongue. The glare she shot Jules was so hard it could cut diamonds. “Your girl’s just reminding me what it takes to be queen,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
Jules had been so focused on Ruby that she hadn't even noticed people stopping to watch the two girls bitch at each other. She was almost grateful for the interruption, because if things had turned physical, she had no doubt people would have started pulling out their phones. Jasper's voice distracted Jules from her menacing thoughts and her gaze ticked to him briefly before Ruby spoke and drew Jules's ire back to her. "Hey, it's not my fault you don't have it," she retorted. "But thanks for reminding me what a bitch you can be. I'd almost forgotten."
Jasper had known Ruby for a long time, but they’d mostly hung out outside of school, and it sounded like there was some history going on between the two girls that he had no idea about. He frowned over Jules calling Ruby a bitch, because she really wasn’t, but getting in the middle of all of this to do anything but break it up seemed like a bad idea. Jules had definitely been drinking a lot, and it was easy to assume Ruby had been too, and that was a recipe for disaster. “Okay you two,” he murmured as he moved in closer and put a hand on Jules’s arm. “Let’s take a break and settle down, huh?” It was weird being the one breaking up a fight instead of starting one.
“Oh honey, I wouldn’t stoop low enough to have a chance for it,” Ruby smirked, rolling her eyes. “I’d rather be genuine than popular.” It always burned to be called a bitch, but it wasn’t the first time and it wouldn’t be the last. Ruby took a step back and took a breath, suddenly itching for another drink. Or a cigarette. Something to calm her the fuck down. She wasn’t fond of the crowd that had gathered around, but leaving felt like it would be letting Jules win. “Sure,” she said, retracting her claws and turning her attention to Jasper. “I could use some air.”
Jules's face felt hot and she had the satisfying mental image of raking her nails down Ruby's pretty face. Of course Ruby would call her fake. She wasn't the first person to do it, and Jules didn't care. She didn't. But she didn't like the implication in front of Jasper either. She could only imagine the things Ruby could tell him about Jules and that burned her more than being called fake, or anything else Ruby might throw at her. Jules scowled as Ruby spoke to Jasper and Jules stepped forward, partly to make Ruby step back and partly to step in front of Jasper. "Then go outside and get some," Jules said hotly. Alone was the unspoken implication because no way was Jasper going anywhere with Ruby right now.
