Re: Ruby and Jules
Jules supposed she should have said she knew the inside of Jasper's car, because no, she had no idea how many cylinders his car had... or... what a cylinder even was. Not that it mattered. Ruby seemed to get it and Jules sipped from her cup and arched a blonde brow. Her expression was calm, despite the heat in her face. "I know that," Jules said, wanting to make Ruby well aware that Jules didn't see her as a threat. Never mind that she had about thirty seconds ago. That didn't matter now either. It was strange to picture Ruby and Jasper hanging out. She and Ruby hadn't hung out in a really long time, but Ruby knew her in a way Jasper didn't. Not that Jules had anything to hide, but friends, even ex-friends, always knew someone better than boyfriends did, right? And Jules wasn't entirely sure she had been the nicest person before. Maybe she wasn't the nicest person now, but... ugh, vodka and feelings weren't a good combination. "I know you probably think it's really weird, but...Sebastian broke up with me, and..." Jules shrugged. "Jasper was like, the anti-Sebastian. It worked. If you guys are friends, then, like... we should try to get along or something."
“Do you really?” Ruby laughed in disbelief. Ugh, she was so bad at this. This game they played. She knew the right thing to do was probably calm her ass down and try for a genuine expression of friendship-- or at last be friendly-- but she had her own flare up of possessiveness to deal with as well. Ruby didn’t have as many people as Jules. She certainly didn’t have a school’s worth saying she was perfect. The idea that Jules might take Jasper away from her was almost worse than him being hurt by her, at least in her head. She shot back the rest of her drink, needing it now. They were going to try and get along. Fabulous. They were clearly headed down that path already. “Yeah, Jasper and Sebastian are pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum,” she said, amused, then sighed. “We can try that,” she agreed. They had even been friends, once upon a time. “So… are you dating? Or is he just a rebound?”
The thing was, Ruby could have had as many friends as Jules. She could have maybe even been Homecoming queen tonight if she hadn't pulled away from Jules when they were younger. Jules still didn't understand it. And she couldn't believe she hadn't realized Jasper and Ruby were friends. But then, how often had she paid attention to Ruby's social life after freshman year? Or Jasper's... ever? Jasper was hardly in school as it was. There was some relief that the two had only ever been friends, because Jules wasn't sure she would have been able to handle the knowledge that Ruby'd had Jasper first. Just the thought made Jules want to rage and break every bottle within reach. She stared at Ruby, just waiting for some reason to lose her shit. But Ruby seemed to be game for trying to be nice to each other, so Jules exhaled softly, even if her question had Jules rolling her eyes. "If he was just a rebound, I wouldn't have cared if you two had fucked, Ruby. I mean... he might've been a rebound at first, but not anymore." She still wasn't entirely sure what Jasper was, but she wanted to find out, at least. "If you're trying to like, poke around to see if I'm only using him to get over Sebastian, you don't have to. Sebastian and I broke up forever ago. That's not what this is, okay?"
