Re: Ruby and Jules
Jules was really happy she wasn't drinking her vodka in that moment because she might have choked on it. Not that Jasper wasn't allowed to have friends - girl friends - but she hadn't known he was friends with Ruby. Ruby Fox and Sabrina Cox and did all of his female friends have to be so pretty? Jules stared down into her cup before downing the rest of the vodka and setting it on the island sharply. The alcohol burned her throat, but she didn't really care. "I know Jasper," Jules said, her voice raspy from the drink. She brushed a strand of hair back that had fallen from her up-do. "He's here, actually. I didn't know you guys were friends." She emphasized the word friends, studying Ruby intently. Ugh, why was she calling Jasper J. That was like an affectionate nickname or whatever. Jules pulled the vodka bottle back toward her to pour more into her cup. "Like, that's all you are, right? Friends? You guys haven't... hooked up or anything?"
The look Ruby gave her was hedging towards Bitch Mode because they really weren’t close enough friends for Jules to be asking who she’d hooked up with. The last thing she needed was Jules spreading rumors about her. “That’s really none of your business,” she snapped, attitude coming out. “But no, we’re just friends. I mean, he’s hot and all, but,” Ruby shrugged. “It’s never been like that. He’s cool.” Jasper didn’t talk down to her. He’d never treated her differently because she was a girl or because she’d been labeled ‘weird’. She’d always thought of him as a decent guy who made a lot of bad decisions. But, hell, who didn’t? She took a sip of her drink, trying to reign herself in. This was Jules’ party. She shouldn’t be a bitch to the host. “Why’re you asking?”
Jules's gaze narrowed dangerously and her fingers tightened around the vodka bottle because it was her business, and did the non-answer mean that they had hooked up? Or still were? No, because Jasper had promised he wasn't fucking anyone else. Jules really felt like she might have completely lost her temper if Ruby hadn't continued by saying that she and Jasper were only friends and some of the anger that had began to build seemed to dull as Jules realized she had nothing to worry about. Still, there was an intense surge of possessiveness and Jules's rational thinking was trying to claw its way through the haze of alcohol to try and keep her attitude reined in. Screaming at another girl for being friends with her... Jasper, whatever he was, was not how Jules wanted to end the evening. Leave it to Ruby to rain on her parade. For a moment she thought stubbornly of ignoring Ruby's question, or telling her it was none of her business, but some part of Jules felt like she needed to like, mark her territory or some stupid bullshit guys did when they felt threatened. "I asked because I wanted to know," Jules said smartly. "I know Jasper. I know his car really well too. We're... friends. More than friends. Whatever it is, we're it. So... I didn't know you two hung out, that's all." Ugh, she felt like she was rambling, but the alcohol was buzzing through her and she couldn't seem to think properly at the moment.
“You know his car?” Ruby asked, unable to keep the disbelief out of her voice. “I have a really hard time picturing you under the hood. No offense.” She’d be shocked if Jules knew how many cylinders it had. That being said, she’d be surprised if Jules knew how many cylinders her own car had. But then she continued on and it all made sense. “More than friends,” she said with a nod. Got it. Jasper was fucking her. No wonder she looked like she was thinking about tearing Ruby’s hair out. Ruby sighed, leaning back against the counter. “You have nothing to worry about,” she said, though she was worried about Jasper. Jules would drop him as soon as she found someone better. Someone that fit her mold.
