Ruby and Jules
Jules was having an amazing night. Homecoming was amazing, her tiara - that she was still wearing, of course - was amazing, and her party was amazing. It probably helped some that she had been drinking quite a bit, but she didn’t have to hide her sort-of relationship with Jasper anymore - did she? - and no one was really giving her shit for it yet so that was amazing too. Of course, this was her party, and her house, so if anyone gave her shit, she’d just kick their asses out into the night. Fuck them. All her friends were there, and people she barely spoke to, but Jules was a little drunk and in a great mood and she refused to let anything sour her evening. Jasper would stay the night, and after everyone left she planned on having amazing sex. It was the perfect night, honestly, and no one could tell her differently.
At some point, she wandered into her kitchen to pour herself a new drink, smiling and saying hello to a couple people on her way to the large island where the cups and bottles and juices were set out. She set her cup down on the island and reached for the marshmallow vodka when she spotted a familiar face nearby. She and Ruby didn’t really talk a lot anymore, and it was sort of jarring to see her ex-?-friend in her house, even though there were a ton of people there. “Hey,” Jules greeted, unscrewing the cap on the vodka. “I didn’t know you were coming.”
Ruby had waffled back and forth about what to do with her Saturday night all day long, but when it came down to it, she wanted to be where everyone else was. The dance she could care less about, but the party? She had to make an appearance. So she dolled herself up, opting for a brightly colored tank dress and boots that came up over her knees. It wasn’t what anything like what the other girls would’ve been wearing to the dance, but she really didn’t give a fuck. She looked good, that was what mattered.
It was weird being in Jules’ house again after all those years away, but that really didn’t stop her from going. She’d be surprised if even half the people there received a personal invitation, which was why Jules’ question threw her for a loop when they ran into each other in the kitchen. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know I was supposed to RSVP,” Ruby said with a laugh. Her eyes ticked up to the glittery tiara on Jules’ head. “I see you finally got your crown. How’s it feel to be queen?”
No one needed a personal invite, given most of Jules's parties were open to everyone. She did occasionally have smaller parties with just her closest friends, but this was definitely not one of them. And hell, Ruby might’ve been to her other parties for all she knew. Jules didn’t police them, after all. It was… weird. Like everything else in her life lately. Jules poured the vodka into her cup and arched a brow at Ruby. She had no idea if Ruby was mocking her or what, and it reminded her a bit of Jasper... only Jasper like, two weeks ago. Not Jasper now. Jules set the bottle back on the island and smiled. "I've felt like a queen for years now. This is just the first time someone's given me a crown for it. But it feels good, thanks. I like your dress. It's... colorful," Jules said, motioning to Ruby's outfits with her dress before sipping from her cup.
Of course she felt like a queen, Ruby thought. Jules ran the damn school. Ruby narrowed her eyes, sure that was a dig, even if she couldn’t say why. No, her dress wasn’t fancy, and was probably a quarter of the cost of Jules’, but gauging from the looks the boys were giving her, it really didn’t matter. “Thanks. I like yours. It’s…fluffy,” she said in response, noting the feathers. Not her style at all, but Jules looked great. She always did, like a model on the runway. “Pour me a shot?” She said, tilting her cup towards Jules before she could cap the marshmallow vodka. “I never get to try the flavored stuff.”
