Yes. Nicole shook her head. "That's a little too esoteric for me, I'm afraid." She had built her entire adult persona around reason and tangible, easily quantifiable facts. Feelings about the nature of Point Pleasant didn't enter into that, so Nicole carefully excised that part of herself and pretended ignorance. It had served her so far.
"Speaking of heaviness, though, I should get back to work." She rose heavily from the bench and dropped what was left of her coffee into the nearby trashcan. "It was good seeing you, Jane." It wasn't, not really, not given what Jane represented, but at least Nicole could take comfort in knowing her fellow survivor was still kicking. That had to count for something. "Take care." She offered her a small smile, polite to the end, and turned toward the hospital entrance.
Some people's day was just beginning. Nicole rolled her shoulders and thought fondly of finally clocking out.
