Jane wouldn't have been surprised if Nicole had been short with her. Even unkind. It wasn't as if they had shared a magical time at summer camp together. The experience they'd had didn't harbor deep, unbreakable bonds of friendship. But Jane was done running from what had happened, and what she was. And that was one of the reasons why she had come back.
Jane sipped her coffee, hating the bitter taste it left on her tongue. In her mind, being a doctor was much more than a job. It was a commitment. A lot of schooling, a lot of money and a lot of time.
