It was too goddamn early in the morning to be awake, but there she was, walking through town, her hoodie up around her head to keep her ears warm from the early morning chill. Jane couldn't sleep, which was a major drag, given how many dreams she had wanted to slip into the night before. Instead, she had tossed and turned, awakened quite a few times by noises coming from the bathroom in her room. Footsteps. Whispers. When she had investigated, there had been nothing unusual. It might have unnerved some, but Jane was more annoyed than anything. The ghosts of that place ought to have known she needed her rest. But most ghosts were assholes, she was convinced, so...
Jane had gotten dressed and gotten herself a cup of coffee from the Inn's kitchen. She carried the coffee with her outside. She had a car, but Jane wanted to walk. She needed to wake up and clear her head and figure out her next move.
Eventually she found herself passing through the hospital parking lot, a shortcut to Joyland Coffee, where she could get something fresh and with more flavor than the goblin piss in her cup. Not that Jane knew what goblin piss tasted like, but she had to assume it was something similar to this.
She wasn't giving much thought to her surroundings until a figure caught her eye. Jane glanced once in the woman's direction before doing something of a double take. The face was familiar. Very familiar. Jane wondered if she ought to turn around and head back to where she'd come, but that was only a fleeting thought, and she found herself walking toward Nicole instead. No wonder she couldn't sleep. This was where she was meant to be.
Jane said nothing until she sat down on the bench near Nicole, though she gave her plenty of space. People liked their space.
"Long shift?" Jane asked, bringing her own cup up to her lips as she eyed Nicole's cup. Was hospital coffee any better than her own? Probably not.
