Since Jasper turned the channel away from the music, that gave Jules something to focus on other than Jasper. She honestly didn't care what they watched, because she doubted she would be able to concentrate on it for very long. "Are you asking me to go see a movie with you?" Jules asked as she settled back against the couch and shifted so she could stretch her legs out in front of her. "Because I don't want to get too full of myself and assume you like me or something." Maybe she was being a little snarky, but it was just confusing, trying to figure out what page they were supposed to be on, and what any of this was, if anything at all. Sometimes she thought she knew, but then the lines got blurry and it was becoming a little frustrating.
He should’ve known being an awkward idiot would backfire on him. But what was he supposed to say? They’d made it clear in a hundred ways to each other that this relationship thing was just for fun, it didn’t mean anything, they just had great sexual chemistry and loved to fuck and then bicker afterward. That last part had been kind of tapering off though, hadn’t it? But it still felt like they weren’t supposed to talk about liking each other. Jasper strongly suspected it was mostly one-sided anyway, on his side. Why would Jules Cooper like a dude like him? He sighed and let his head fall back against the cushion for a second, then glanced at her before looking at the TV again. “I was just kidding, Jules,” he muttered. “You’re in my dad’s house wearing my clothes, of course I’d take you to a movie.” Of course I like you, was what he meant but couldn’t quite bring himself to say.
It really couldn't be that easy, could it? Jules was aware that it should be, because if two people liked each other, they should... be okay with it. So why was Jules fretting about it all of the sudden. Hadn't she been thinking about asking Jasper to Homecoming? Maybe that was just... too big, too soon. Homecoming was a big deal for Jules and her friends. And she honestly couldn't imagine Jasper wanting to get all dressed up, take her to dinner and hang out with her group of friends all night. But a movie... that wouldn't be so bad, would it? "Okay," Jules said slowly, still picking at the pizza roll between her fingers. "When do you want to go?"
Homecoming wasn’t even in the realm of possibility, in Jasper’s mind. Even if he kind of maybe wanted to go, he didn’t think for a second that Jules would be his date. He wouldn’t even know how to act in that circumstance, really. The only school dances Jasper had ever been to, he’d just tagged along with friends, gotten drunk and made fun of all the dorks enjoying themselves, then fucked off to go hang out elsewhere and be rowdy. He would probably end up ruining the night for Jules somehow, so it was best to avoid the whole thing. He’d been largely speaking in hypotheticals, so Jules’s question gave him some pause. “Oh, uh ... I dunno ... next week sometime? I got Wednesday off, we could go after school,” he suggested. The weekend was booked already, obviously, and going on a weeknight would mean less of a chance of running into someone they knew.
She could sort of tell that he hadn't thought they were setting an actual day for a movie, but Jules didn't really care. If he was willing to take her to a movie, why not take her to a movie? It would probably be good for them to actually go out and see how things went on a semi-real date. Then they would know if this thing, whatever it was, had legs. And if they wanted it to. It was all kind of strange and confusing, but Jules was in the right state of mind at the moment to give it serious thought. "I have cheer practice after school," Jules said. And who went to a movie after school? Especially on a Wednesday. "Why don't we just go after the game on Friday?" Almost everyone she knew would be going to Moxie's anyway and she wouldn't have to worry about being home at a 'decent time' for school the next day.
