Jane stared at Neil in silence for several moments before she set her license on the counter abruptly. "You charge for non-resident cards?" It could be just policy that he was following, and maybe he was reveling a little in being able to deny her something so simple as a library card. Jane hadn't liked Neil much at the institute and obviously that wasn't going to change now. She kept her license on the counter and reached into her bag for her wallet, her eyes on his face the entire time.
"I'll take three months. I think that will be plenty of time to become a resident. I don't mind the two book limit," Jane said, opening her wallet to pull out her debit card. She slid it across to Neil sharply. "I read fast, and I don't have a job at the moment, so that just means coming back more frequently, I guess. It's a lovely library, I don't think I'll mind the trip."
