Who: Neil and Jane Where: The library When: Tuesday September 5th, afternoon Status: Complete Rating: Mild language
One thing Neil had a hard time getting used to with his job was how much trash people actually liked reading. He'd always seen the local library as a respectful place, full of knowledge and inspiration from great men throughout history. Mostly long dead men of long ago history of course; it was hard to admit to the genius of fallible living people who were all too prone to letting him down. So yes, he'd held a rather romanticized idea about libraries. Learning about them had been a bit like learning about the human body after only ever seeing artistic interpretations of it; basically they were full of shit.
He was rearranging some of the most popular books in the library, something he should have Mak do but Mak had started school and wasn't around as often as he'd like her to be anymore. He supposed it could wait but judging by how quickly these books disappeared from the shelves it was better to have them in their place than to have people come in and awkwardly ask for them. Awkwardly, not necessarily because they knew how trashy they were but the titles tended to be... embarrassing. No, the most popular books in his library weren't history books or hell, even poetry. It was all romance novels. Stupid and poorly written romance novels with half naked men on the cover, usually accompanied by some floozy with flowy locks and a near orgasmic look on her face as she leaned against her muscle stud. It was abhorrent and he didn't much care for how some of those tacky pictures actually made him feel.
If it was up to him he'd keep these books somewhere in the back - far back - if he even deemed them worthy of having at all, but this was a public library and he was not in charge. He supposed he could understand to a point that people wanted some mindless entertainment, but there was plenty of that on TV! For books they should be digging a little deeper, reading something beautiful or useful. He sighed as he put up the newest addition to the collection, freshly plastered and labelled and probably not staying long on that shelf
