Here she was thinking of psychics and witches, but what Tuck was describing seemed so much more complex than those things. She lifted her head from the pillow, using her elbow to hold herself up a bit as she studied him. It wasn't that she didn't believe him, because Brianna had witnessed enough insanity to know even the craziest things could be real, but it was just difficult to imagine Eddie out in the world, pulling strings and changing the probabilities around him for benefit. Then again, she had always known he would be successful, didn't she? "I've... never heard of anything like that before, and I've heard plenty of improbable things over the years," she murmured. It certainly helped explain how he "gambled'' his way into so much wealth. Had this always been something he could do? A thought occurred to her and Brianna lifted a brow, a smile playing at her lips. "So, wait, did you... read into any probability of this happening tonight?"
The question didn’t surprise him at all, and he kind of loved that cheeky look on Brianna’s face. Like maybe she wouldn’t have minded if he did pull some strings. “Nah, it doesn’t really work on people,” he answered, smiling faintly himself. “Too many variables, everything’s changing too quickly to really see. ... but I did try anyway. I knew for sure the reunion wasn’t being canceled, but that was all.” Brianna could’ve had every intention to come, but had a flat tire on the way, or a fight with her husband, or a sick kid to take care of, or gotten upsetting news from the family, or ate the wrong thing and felt too bloated, or a million other possibilities. Tuck was just so glad that the odds had been in his favor yet again and she’d shown up. “If you hadn’t made it tonight ... would you have wanted me to call you? Let you know I was in town?” he asked.
It was a bit of a relief to hear he couldn't exactly manipulate probability when it came to people. Brianna was quite sure this would have happened regardless, but it was easier to relax and enjoy it without that nagging of doubt in the back of her mind. Even hearing he tried didn't really bother her, probably because he hadn't been able to. If anything, it amused her even more and she huffed a soft laugh through her lips. "If I hadn't made it tonight... of course I would have wanted you to call me. I've been wanting you to call me for the past five years, if we're being honest with each other." His skin felt so nice beneath her fingers and she ran her hand over his chest. "Would you have called me? Or would you have made some small talk and ditched town?"
Tuck hadn’t tried to manipulate anything on his way to the reunion, he’d just tried to see how it was going to go. It was difficult to explain, but Brianna didn’t question that part, so he assumed she got it. The way she was petting him made him want to purr, and he truly hoped she liked the changes his body had gone through as he matured into a grown man. There was definitely more hair on him than there used to be. Hearing that she’d been wanting him to call gave Tuck a mix of flutters and guilt -- maybe he should have. Gods knew he’d thought about it a thousand times over. “I would have, being here,” he told her softly, his dark gaze settled on her face. “I couldn’t come back and then leave without saying hello. I just ... over five years I guess I convinced myself you didn’t want me to call. That I’d just be fucking with your life. Probably gave myself too much credit.” Tuck grinned faintly.
