Re: Kat & Aaron
“I doubt either of them wants to start something today,” Kat said, though she wouldn’t put it past Caden to go against his better judgment after a few drinks. Hopefully Roxy would keep her distance and Shan would keep Caden occupied. She seemed to be good at that. In fact, she wasn’t even sure where they were at the moment. “It’s a good day,” Kat smiled, a hint of mischief in her eyes. “And it’s gonna keep being a good day. If one of ‘em tries to stir up some shit, I’ll kick their ass.” She said it like a joke, but there was a part of her that meant it. This was Aaron and Mila’s day and she wasn’t going to let anyone ruin it. She wanted them to look back on it and only have happy memories. So far, they seemed to be on track, and she’d do everything in her power to ensure it stayed that way. It was another good reason not to drink too much. She could always make up for it later.
Aaron would’ve agreed that Caden was the one most likely to pop off, so he was grateful that he had someone there to distract him. Gavin was already playing wedding bouncer as the best man, but they all knew how Caden could get, and the last thing Aaron wanted was a bunch of people having to jump in to break something up. At the moment he pictured Kat joining them, her dress and blonde hair flying everywhere, and he had to laugh a bit. “I bet you would, too,” Aaron told her with an affectionate grin. “And ass-kickings hurt more with heels ... oh.” He’d glanced down at Kat’s feet and noticed that she’d wisely decided against wearing heels, probably because she’d been running around the whole wedding like crazy with her camera. Aaron made a “duh” face and then smiled at her again. “We really appreciate you doin’ all this, by the way. I’m so stoked to see ‘em. The pictures. Bet I looked like a doofus up there.”
“Yeah, I don’t usually wear heels when I’m working,” Kat smiled. She’d done it just once and that was enough to realize how bad a choice it was. Not only did it kill her feet, but she couldn’t always move quietly during the ceremony. The last thing anyone wanted was the clack, clack, clack of heels while saying their vows, even if the pictures turned out great. “Won’t stop me from kicking ass though.” Especially if one of her brothers were involved. There was absolutely no reason to hold back with them. “You look like a doofus anywhere,” she grinned. “But up there, you’re clearly a doofus in love. They’ll be great. I’m excited to see how they come out.” She’d seen them through the lens of the camera, but that wasn’t the same as seeing the final shot. It all happened so quickly, even for the photographer. That’s why there were pictures, to help capture the memories.
He laughed a bit at the playful insult, though she was probably right. Aaron knew he had the soul of a golden retriever, so he did probably look like a derpy dumbass all of the time ... but he was definitely in love, and he hoped that shined through. And he was so happy that his whole family was there to see it in person. Aaron hadn’t been positive for a while that his brothers would support it, but they’d really come through, and he knew they were both going to love their niece once she arrived. Kat’s support had been a given, but Aaron was thrilled she was there too. Filled with another of those rushes of affection, he stepped in closer to sling an arm around Kat and give her a half-hug. “I love you,” he told her with a smile. “I know it sucks sometimes, but I’m so glad you came home.”
“Aw, I love you, too,” Kat smiled, leaning into him. Even though she was working the wedding, it had been a long time since she’d felt this good about anything. Aaron and Mila felt right in a world where everything was a little bit wrong. Having left Point Pleasant, she knew now that the grass wasn’t always greener. It was just a little more predictable. Coming home might’ve put an end to her love life, but it felt right in a way she couldn’t explain. Aaron and Mila were having a baby and she was meant to be there as an in-person aunt, not just one who liked images on instagram. “It’s going to suck a little bit everywhere,” she told him. “This is where I’m meant to be.”
