Re: Kat & Aaron
“You pay attention to the guys there, do you?” Kat teased Aaron, despite having no interest in the guys who worked at Cherries. Or any strip joint. She didn’t think her standards were very high, but she just couldn’t see herself with a stripper, even if she’d joked about it. “You stay away from that place from now on,” she reminded him. Not that he needed reminding at his own wedding, but sometimes it needed to be said. She couldn’t imagine Mila being pleased with him ever going there again. “Shan and I have talked, but we’re barely acquaintances. Mila’s more like a sister than she is,” Kat said. “And, I dunno, still probably not quite the same. But close. I guess we’ll see if I ever get there with Shan. So far she seems a better match for Caden.”
Aaron nodded and held his hands up at the reminder -- it wasn’t necessary, but it was going to be something he kept hearing from the females in his life, so he might as well be a good sport about it. Aaron had spent a lot of years frequenting Cherries and places like it, sleeping with every willing woman he fancied, just living that bachelor life. No more though, and he was kind of excited about it. “Well yeah, Mila’s your sister for real now too!” Aaron said. He wasn’t used to thinking about it that way but now they were married for real and Mila was officially in the family. He took another drink in celebration of that, then snorted and nodded a bit. “Yeah she does, doesn’t she?” he agreed. “More like ... on his level. I’m glad they’re both movin’ on.” Aaron made a vague gesture to where Roxy was dancing with her new man. He didn’t know Spence very well yet, but she seemed happy and that was what mattered.
Mila was the kind of woman she’d always wanted for Aaron, though if she was honest, she thought she’d probably have more fun with Shan. The woman seemed like she knew how to party. Though Mila probably did too, when she wasn’t pregnant. Kat would have to wait and see. They’d been friends, but now they were family, so she expected to see more of her than she had before. Aaron’s gesture drew her attention to Roxy, and she raised a brow before looking back at Aaron. “Good for her,” she said. “I know I only ever heard what was going on from someone other than them, but they never really seemed happy.” She couldn’t say for sure that they were now either, but they seemed closer at the very least. “Do you know him?” she asked, gesturing towards the guy dancing with Roxy.
Kat had been away for a long time, but Aaron had witnessed a lot of Caden and Roxy’s relationship, working with both of them at the bar. It had rarely seemed happy, and had often gotten volatile. He knew Caden had a violent temper and Roxy wasn’t a woman who held her tongue very often, so they had never seemed very good for each other. Almost any couple could have good times together and be momentarily happy, but you really had to look at that long-term big picture stuff. “They had a lotta issues, yeah,” Aaron said before taking another sip of his drink. He shook his head to answer Kat’s question. “I mean, I remember him from school but we weren’t buddies or nothin’. He seems like a good dude, though. He just needs to keep his distance from Caden.” Aaron knew Gavin was watching things like a hawk and he would defuse any trouble that started to brew, but after today it was best for them all to just go their separate ways.
