Re: Kat & Aaron
“The Porch is fine,” Kat said with a wave of her hand, though she suspected it didn’t really feel like getting out when he was drinking where he worked. She just knew it’d be cheaper for them to get drunk there than to go somewhere else. Though, if she was honest, she’d probably have a lot more fun without all three of her brothers there. “You found her when the time was right,” she said, her glass clinking against his. If Aaron had gone after Mila in high school, they’d probably wouldn’t have lasted and then there wouldn’t have been a chance for later. He’d probably lucked out in meeting her when he was older and had calmed down a bit. “Good men are in short supply around here,” Kat said with a soft snort. Some days she thought she’d just take a man, good or not, even for just an hour or two, but she wasn’t going to tell her brother that. “Besides, that’s not your responsibility. Maybe I just need to start knocking on doors and meet my neighbors. Worked for you.”
Aaron knew for sure that he would’ve fucked up with Mila if they’d tried to be together in high school, or even for several years after that. Aaron had had a lot of wild oats to sow. He’d been wondering on and off since his bachelor party whether that was related to what he’d confessed to Adrian ... but he’d also been trying his best not to think about that, pushing it aside again and again. Being drunk like this helped, he was feeling too fantastic to dwell on the bad stuff. That could quickly change if he went too far, but for now Aaron was in a good spot. “Hey, crazier things have happened,” he said, grinning at her. “Caden found a wife in Atlantic City, you could go find you a male stripper.” Aaron nudged her arm and laughed, obviously joking. It was still pretty insane to him that Caden had actually brought Shan home with him. Surely you could get a marriage annulled in AC just as easy as you could say the vows, it just seemed like that kind of place.
“Hey, that’s an idea,” Kat laughed. “I’ll just pop down to Cherries after this and see if they’ve got any that are interested. Or I could strip. Not at Cherries, maybe some place a little more high class, and find me a sugar daddy. It worked for Shan, didn’t it?” Not that Caden was a sugar daddy in any form or fashion, but that was besides the point. Kat could joke about it because it was never going to happen. She had full respect for Shan, but was lucky enough to have never been that desperate herself. If Kat was going to strip, it would probably be because she’d had waaaay too much to drink and she wouldn’t even get paid for it. Definitely not a solid plan.
He couldn’t help but make a face at the thought of Kat stripping, because he definitely didn’t want to picture it, as her brother. Besides not wanting to imagine her naked, thinking about Kat being treated the way strippers were often treated made him want to murder someone. So it was better not to think about it. “You don’t want anybody from Cherries, believe me,” Aaron said instead with a laugh. “I been there enough.” He took another drink and then smiled again. “Not anymore though, I’m fuckin’ married now.” Mila had greenlit going to Cherries for his bachelor party, but Aaron knew that party life was pretty much over for him going forward. Not only was he married now, he was about to be a dad, and that meant so much more than seeing strangers’ tits. “And I think jury’s out on if it’s workin’ for her or not,” he added, glancing around for Caden and Shan. “You talked to her much? Is it weird to like, have a sister kinda?”
